Silence Everlasting

murmurs rumbling mumbling soft

across a field of throat clenching flowers

silence comes not with a five foot box

instead a rush of muted noise (white noise)

his football glory cheers from the TV

mixed with apologetic words

and crunches from a well-planned lunch

praise forma man he’s never met

and footsteps on a sodden ground

to lead him to his rest (silence at last?)

he whispers from beneath the turf

“By dying I have learned to live

By living I have learned to die”
