A/N: Happy Valentines Day!
Black Widow
“Is that jealousy I hear?” Lillian asked. Skye snorted.
“Don’t you wish? Since when have I ever been jealous?” Lillian smiled knowingly.
“True,” she said after taking a sip from her drink. There was a short silence as they both looked around the room. The lighting was dim giving the place the mysterious kind of aura. Other than the couple beside them there was no one else at a table near to them – everyone else was at the bar.
“See any guy you like?” Lillian asked as she glanced around at the bar. “The blonde is pretty cute.” She pointed him out to her friend.
“Don’t like blondes.” Skye deadpanned. “Though that brunette is to die for,” she murmured mischievously. The brunette happened to look up at Skye at that exact moment. She smiled flirtatiously, twirling a strand of her auburn hair around her finger.
“You coming?” She turned to Lillian. Lillian shook her head.
“I’ve got a boyfriend, remember?” Skye scowled.
“Yeah, John – who could forget him?” She shivered as if the mere memory of him was terrifying.
“Hey,” Lillian objected. “Be nice.” Skye just rolled her eyes.
“Don’t have the time,” and with that Skye stood up from the table and started walking towards the bar, or more specifically the brunette.
“Hey! Don’t you want your drink?” Lillian called after her.
“Nah, won’t need it.” Skye replied. She walked up the brunette and sat herself down on the stool next to him.
“Hey good-looking,” She giggled. 5….4….3…. she counted down ….2….1….
“Can I buy you a drink?” He asked right on queue.
“Why not?” She asked. He disappeared for a moment then reappeared with two drinks in his hands.
“Here’s a vodka for the lovely lady,” he handed her the drink.
“Oh please,” she said blushing slightly. “The name’s Skye,” she introduced herself.
“Seth,” he said in turn.
“So Seth, tell me – what’s a handsome guy like you doing alone here?” Skye licked her lips seductively.
“Have you seen this man?” He pulled out a photograph of a guy that looked somewhat like a leprechaun with his red hair and green eyes. The bar tender looked at the blonde suspiciously before taking the picture and studying it for a moment.
“Yeah, he’s come around here a couple of times. Haven’t seen himrecently though,” he added before returning the picture.
“That’s because he’s dead.” The bar tender looked taken aback.
“What did you say your name was?” He asked nervously.
“I didn’t.” The blonde takes out his wallet and shows him a badge. “Hunter Blaze, police.”
“Put that away,” the bar tender hissed. “I don’t want you scaring customers away.” He obliges and puts the badge back into his pocket.
“Anything you can tell me about him?” He asks again. The bar tender glanced around cautiously.
“The last time he was here he was hanging around with Widow,” before Hunter could ask he pointed to a young women who was busy entertaining some guy at the bar. Hunter raised her eyebrows questioningly.
“Surely Widow isn’t her real name, is it?” He asked.
“Hell no,” The bar tender replied. “But most of us call her Widow because…” He trails off suddenly as Widow herself and her supposed date walk up to the bar. Widow clung to her date who had his arms around her waist.
“Fix me another vodka, would you Chris?” The brunette asked, slurring his words somewhat.
“A Strawberry Stripper for me,” she said before whispering something in the brunette’s ear causing a vibrant blush to appear on his face. “Thanks,” she replied as Chris handed them their drinks. Once they were out of earshot, Hunter started talking again.
“I’m sure it’s safe to assume that you don’t call her widow because her husband died,” Hunter started hoping that Chris would explain. Chris laughed.
“Her – married? That’ll be the day. She goes through guys like candy.” Hunter nodded.
“I can see why.” He stated.
“Yeah,” Chris stared at her dreamily. “She’s a looker alright….” Hunter clears his throat abruptly. “Ah yeah… you want me to explain, don’t you?” Chris murmured more or less to himself. He beckoned Hunter closer. “You didn’t hear this from me.”
“Of course,” Hunter agreed.
“Well – you know anything about the Black Widow Spider?” Chris asked.
“Yeah,” Hunter nodded. “After mating the female kills and eats the male.” Chris only nodded.
“What? You’re not saying…” He questions, his eyes wide.
“I don’t know about the whole eating part but the rest…” Chris shrugs. “Let’s just say that any guy seen with her never comes back here,” he stops and thinks for a moment and then adds: “To be fair that could be because of other reasons but – you never know.” Hunter looks over to where Widow and her date were sitting to see that they were no longer there.
“Damn,” he mutters to himself. He turns back to Chris. “You know where I can find her?”
“She’ll be in one of the rooms upstairs.”
“But all sweet things come to an end,” She whispered to herself. She picked up her purse from the ground and grabbed something from inside it. Hiding the object in her hand, she crawled back onto the bed. With her free hand she brushed some of Seth’s hair from his face.
“Ready for an encore?” Skye jumped not realizing that during all this that Seth had awoken. She swore mentally making sure the object in her hand was completely out of view. Luckily for her, she recovered quickly.
“Hey baby,” she giggled. Seth grinned.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?” Skye feigned a blush.
“Flattery will get you everywhere,” she kissed him lightly on his collarbone. “Close your eyes.” She demanded sounding oddly like a three-year-old who wanted candy.
“Why?” Seth chuckled, playing along. Skye placed a finger to her lips to silence him.
“It’s a surprise,” once he closed his eyes Skye placed a few more kisses on his neck. She leaned her head against his chest and listened to his heart beat. Slowly, she removed the object in her hand and let it hover right above where his heart was. The object happened to be a dagger. As she held the dagger in the air she leaned her head over so that she could whisper something in his ear.
“I love you,” she murmured just as she drove that dagger into his heart. Seth’s eyes jolted open in astonishment.
“What the fuck…” Skye jumped on top of him.
“Don’t move,” she ordered. Silent tears of pain ran down his face as he tried to say something yet didn’t have the strength to get the words out.
“I….” he stuttered. “….Lo…” and then there was only silence. Skye placed one last kiss on his lips before getting up from the bed. She picked up her shirt from the floor and slipped it back on. She was just in the process of getting her pants on when there was a loud knock on the door.
“Police! Open up!”
“Shit,” Skye hissed.
On the other side of the door was the blonde, Hunter, and he had brought along some reinforcements. He shook his head sadly as the door stayed shut.
“Stand back,” he warned the other officers. Hunter kicked the door down. He looked into the room expecting to find Skye and guy she was with, the latter of which dead. Of course, he was slightly surprised to find the room empty except for the body on the bed.
“There’s no one else in here, sir,” Hunter gaped.
“That’s impossible,” he muttered to himself.
“He’s only been dead for a couple of minutes,” one of the officers told him. He nodded before walking over to the bed where the body was busy being photographed. He glanced down at the body.
“Bloody hell,” He stepped backwards out of surprise, having to steady himself against the bedside table. He rubbed his eyes not really believing what he just saw. He opened his eyes again. And no, he hadn’t imagined it – crawling around on the body was a spider.
