oceans

-

hi. hello.

how is your world today

said the man to the girl

now I'm a leading man

who's never faced an audience

-

and she says I can be your

audience why have you never tried

because the world is a big place

he says and I'm just one man

and she says well I'm just a girl

and we're just two hearts

but two is better than one, is it not?

-

and he says I suppose and focuses on

some distant point in a cloud she can't

see through and she touches his arm

and says nothing. and they sit there

awhile, a man and a girl together

an actor and a listener who have never

had the chance to perform, opportunities

waiting to be found, roses waiting to

bloom. and tonight they can be

under a starless city sky, find an audience

in the smiling moon and dazzling neon

in a place they have taken to mean home.

-

(we never said it would be perfect, she

whispers, but know that I'll be here tomorrow

even if the music stops, he asks and she says

yes. and he smiles and they lean together

a silhouette of souls against a bright grey sky).
