The Girl at the Beach

She stood there always,

Unmoving

The aqua waves lapping

Gently at her bare feet

She never turned around

But seemed to be

Frozen

Gazing out at the faraway ships

Clad only in a thin blue dress

But she never shivered

Perhaps

Her shining sheet of long golden hair

Blown back by the salty sea breeze

Offered some warmth?

Some comfort?

I wondered.

Rain or shine

Day or night

Summer or winter

It didn’t matter

She remained there
