A World at War
You hear it every night on the evenin’ news.
Somebody gets shot while they were drinkin’ booze.
But you never really think about it till it hits at home.
Your son was killed, in a parking lot brawl.
It hurts real hard. It affects us all.
And from now on it will never be the same.
But what if the world felt the very same thing.
The hurting, the dying, a bullet’s cold sting.
The knock of a policeman beating on the door
America’s is dueling with the Middle East.
Korea is fightin’ with a Communist Beast.
This is how it feels when the world has gone to war.
The world has gone to war so run for your life.
Take shelter in the bathroom, hold on to your wife.
And this is just part of the daily life routine.
Troops go running through the streets at night.
Got their guns loaded and are ready to fight.
But there are boys who are only in their teens.
The world is a disaster that just got painted red.
Now there’s no such thing as “safe inside your bed”.
Yet it seems like the the enemy just comes back for more.
America’s dueling with the Middle East.
Korea is fightin’ with a Communist Beast.
This is how it feels when the world has gone to war.
Do you remember the calm of the pre-war time?
Where you wouldn’t get shot for saying “hey that’s mine”
When you could walk to the store without losing a limb.
Let’s hope that this day will come real soon.
So we can sit out on the porch and enjoy the moon.
We could chat all evening just like way back when.
Hopefully this story will never come true.
I hope that nothing bad ever happens to you.
I’m glad that peace still lies beyond my door.
America’s dueling with the Middle East.
Korea is fightin’ with a Communist Beast.
This is how it feels when the world has gone to war.
Author's Note:
This was a project I did for school and was actually published in a book of student poetry. It describes what would happen if the whole world fell into an anarchaic, everyone for themselves state. I hope you like it.
