In your eyes I see,

the world from before.

Your ancient soul

I’ve known all my life.

Slick, oily black strains of hair,

everywhere I witnessed you.

An old woman in your eyes,

gently smiling to the sun

as you bask in it.

I know you.

I’ve met you a thousand times,

thousands of times before.

And I plan to know you

Forever;

Dandelion, moonlight eyes.

Kind whiskers,

Pressing against my legs to say:

“I’ve known you forever too.”

We’ve made a promise,

Greater than any before,

one to connect hearts.

With rusty brown string

and a wish, we know,

we’ll be together.
