In the Beginning
This is the story of us. How a fifteen year-old girl became involved in a relationship with a twenty-eight year-old man, and how that relationship progressed.
This girl’s name is Millani, she’s fourteen, (about to turn fifteen) and a freshman in high school. She is not completely innocent, I think about as innocent as any teenager. Millani is depressed and because of this, has an extremely low self-confidence and self-image. She loves to write, mainly poetry, and she has her own little group of friends. In this group, she puts up a very good front, pretending that she is happy and being outgoing. Inside she is a sad little girl. Millani had gotten so depressed that at one point, she seriously considered ending her life. She even went as far as to write a suicide note, a long one. In it she explained that she was simply not made for this world, and she addressed a personal letter to every one of her loved ones. She told each one specific things, although some things she repeated in each one. The main point is that she was at an extremely low point in her life.
Millani, having next to no self-esteem, turned to pot and boys to make up for that. She regularly smoked pot, smoked cigarettes, and went through boys like toilet paper. She would change boyfriends, breaking up with one to go with another…all the while looking for the love, affection, and attention she so desperately lacked. She would suck dick to any boy who would give her attention or tell her she was pretty. Anything to be validated and feel, for a brief moment, love. (Or what she thought was love.)
Millani’s mother, Haldis, was an alcoholic. She was neglecting and when she was home, she was so drunk, that eventually she would pass out. She would get up the next day and do it all over again. She drank from first thing in the morning until she went to bed, and hardly ate. I guess she didn’t want to take away from being drunk. Millani’s stepfather, Laird, was almost as bad. He pretty much let kids do whatever they wanted, as did Haldis. Laird was also an alcoholic, but not quite as bad as Haldis. Laird just started drinking when he got home from work. Sometimes he would get “shitty drunk” and argue with Haldis, other times he would be all lovey-dovey with her.
The twenty-eight year-old man, Parris, made it easy for Millani to think that things would be great. He made it seem like he would take care of her, love and provide for her. At fifteen, that sounded like a great deal, like everything she ever dreamed of. She never expected the outcome.
