This is a real wish list, but I thought I’d put it in a poem.

Seven wishes

I ask for no more then seven things in a man,

First, he must always be the person my parents like least,

As there is nothing better,

Than to love a person who gives you the chance to rebel.

Secondly, he must always be there when I’m afraid,

There is no better healer,

Then the comfort of strong and warm arms.

Thirdly, he must always be honest with me,

Lies are not clever,

They hurt and hurt, until nothing can come of them but pain.

Fourthly, he must have some flaws in his character,

Perfection suffocates me,

And it is hard to love someone in that way.

Fifthly, he must be able to see both good and bad in me,

I’m not perfect, doubt I’ll ever be,

And I’d prefer to know he knows that too.

Sixthly, he must love me for what is inside,

Instead of out,

The human body is a shell; the soul is where real beauty lies.

Seventhly and most importantly, he must love me like I love him,

As much as anything can be loved and more so.

Love is complicated and I am sure, one day, I may find a person,

Who fits this list,

But for now, I guess they’ll just remain my seven wishes,

Secretly stored in the back of my mind.
