My Beastly Heart

There exists in my chest

A space unlike the rest

Where a horrifying thing is still beating.

It shivers with delight.

When it’s out of the light

And on me this thing’s con-tinu-ally eating.

I fear the desires of this thing

Are the feathers to my wings

As I fly to uncertain destinations.

And what has me vexed

Is my fear for the next

Unlucky soul it’ll crave for annexation.

I pine for the girl

That dropped off the world

To oblivion; else something truly awful.

I watched her fall

To the edge did I crawl

And this thing’s what kept me back and kept me mournful.

And it whispers things

Such loathsome music it sings

Of far off places where I’ll go and things I’ll see.

So why, oh why

If this can help me fly

Do I find myself in cold captivity?

It’s constant noon

In this world of Then, Now and Soon

And I’ve learnt so much about this heart I call my own.

If only Then

If only Then

If only Then I’d truly known.
