I’m fed up
Fed up with people hiding their tears
Behind expensive sunglasses
On eyes outlined with black
Deception eyeliner
Fed up with people shielding
Their eyes from the black
Factories breathing in and out
And they’re hiding their boredom
Behind faked, amusement-filled
Smiles—sugar coated and topped
With cherry lip-gloss
Fed up with people not eating
Too many real cherries
Or fresh bread since
They have too many carbs
And they’re hiding their real values
Behind translucent brand labels
Not realizing originality
Can’t be bought from designers
Fed up with people wearing
What’s in instead
Of what’s right
And people hiding their heart
From what they love, painting
A careless look on with
Rose blush because they’re too afraid
Fed up with people getting their
Philosophies off
Of bumper stickers
Cuz a book’s too heavy
And they’re hiding their loose ends
Behind too-tight shirts and jeans
Showing more skin
Than sentimentality
Fed up with school “preparing” us
For the real world
Instead of showing how to change it
Cuz people are hiding themselves
Behind a mirror image
Of what they think society
Expects of them
But they’re losing the
Respect of society
Instead
