Unclear Intentions
Chapter 1
“Father! You can’t do that to Kam!”
“I’m not going to Silas, but I must think, I do not know if with can with stand an attack from them , in fact I seriously doubt that we can. There forces are to great.”
“We have to try, have you told Kam about this?”
“No, I do not want to frighten her, she is worried enough with the war as it is, no need to tell her that it is she that they want.”
“They said they will attack if they don’t get what they want?”
“Yes, and even then they would monitor everything, we have only one choice we have to fight.”
“They have one hundred thousand strong...that is to many.”
“I know...we must think, we have until sun rise tomorrow to figure something out.”
Kam tossed her long golden brown hair over her shoulder, she got that from her mother, just like her bright green eyes and slim figure. Her brother hated it and often teased her that he wished she were fat and ugly so he wouldn't have to protect her allt he time. She could see her own breath as she laughed when her younger brother Dalton, whacked Nathan, the captain of the guard in the thigh with a toy wooden sword.
“Hey, you little monster!”
Dalton cackled and ran to hide behind his sister as Nathan rubbed his hurt thigh.
“Dalton wins! Nathan loses!” Dalton exclaimed proudly to his sister.
“I see that, next time you should take it easy on the poor guy. He’s not very good with a sword you know.”
Her five year old brother rolled his eyes, “It’s not my fault he sucks, he’s just gonna have to toughen up like me.”
“I guess so.”
“Kami!”
Kam looked up to see her other brother, Keith, who was one year her senior calling down to her from the balcony.
“Kam, come of here for a sec will you? we need to talk.”
Her brother sounded gravely serious so she waved to Dalton and Nathan before heading into the palace to speak with Keith. When she reached his room she found him pacing back and forth across his room.
He looked up as she walked, “Close the door.”
She closed it, “What the matter Keith?”
“I...umm...there...there’s something I need to tell you.”
“Well what is it?” she asked sitting down on his bed.
“I’m not supposed to tell you but I think it’s important that you know.”
“Ok...” he stopped pacing, “You know that there was an army harassing our borders.”
“Yes, but father told me that they moved off.”
“Well, they didn’t, they have moved closer, surrounding us actually.”
“Oh no...”
He knelt down in front of her, “That’s not the bad part Kam, they want something. They demanded something of our father or else they will attack.”
“Why doesn’t he give it to them?”
“They have over a hundred thousand strong.”
“What is it? Why wont father give it to them?”
“Its...Kam...”
“What is it, just tell me.”
“It’s you Kam, they want you, so that they can assure that Father wont revolt once the main army moves on, they want you, as insurance.”
Kam swallowed hard, “If...if they have me, they will not harm the people?”
“They said, if they have what they want, they will not harm anybody, they would keep people here, to monitor, to make sure we didn’t strengthen our forces to revolt. Trade will be controlled the people would be able to live there normal lives.”
“So, either...either way, they will have the city, I know our forces cannot with stand one hundred thousand.”
“Yes...”
She took a deep breath, “When?”
“Tomorrow, sunrise.”
“Tomorrow! That’s too soon.”
“I know...I know. Maybe I shouldn’t have told you, I’m sorry.”
“No, I’m glad that you told me, thank you. I...I know what I have to do.”
“Kam...no, you...”
“I can’t just stand here and do nothing...”
“No, we are not giving you to those men, we will smuggle you our of here, there has to be a way, father is thinking about it already”
“You said they have us surrounded.”
“Well...father will think of a way, I know he will.”
“No Keith, I will go, if I don’t, they will come in here and kill every one...”
“Kam...you aren’t’ going anywhere, I wont let you.”
“Fine, but...I must go think.”
“Alright...I understand.”
“I’ll be in my room.”
“Ok.”
He stood and she left the room, heading down the corridor to her room.
Kam had no intention of staying, she did not want to just abandon her family but if she didn’t they would all be dead, she found a small traveling bag, and packed all the necessary clothes and such.
There was a knock and she quickly shoved the bag under the bed and called for them to come in. It was a maid bringing her dinner, “Thank you.” she said as the maid set it on her bedside table.
She curtsied and left.
Kami really wasn’t’ very hungry but welcomed the tea hot tea.
She sipped it slowly, until it was all gone then set it down on the tray, before she had intended on leaving straight away, but now...she was tired, she would take just a short nap before...
