Sinner

And in the jagged rain that fell
Against a muted gray blue sky
She saw her own reflection
In drops that acidify

Burning as they hit the skin
Deadened and numb to the touch
Painful as they wash clean the sin
That’s taken away too much

And she clasps her hands together
And prays that she’s worth the save
Longing again for the innocence
That the sinner begins to crave

And she wipes the rain away
Or perhaps those are her tears
And she listens close for salvation
But the storm is all she hears
