Truly Unconditional

I can run from you
and ensnare you in my lie
so you can never catch me.

I can throw you to the dogs
and laugh at your name
to tip the scales the other way.

I can present you as a fake
and show the ignorant world
to justify my personal demons.

I can dance around your body
and find a sidepath
to avoid your eye.

I'm a fool and that I can't change,
I run from you when I taste honey
and pull myself back over your threshold
when I'm asunder.

I'm not strong enough to cast you
out and renounce you forever
nor am I able to embrace you
in your unconditional halo.

But deep in my wayfaring
heart I carry a piece of your reliquary.
Forgive me if I try to rid myself of
its floating love.
