Vivid Light
Have you ever walked along a lonely road
with trees as your only companion
in the black ether hanging thick
around you?
I remember it well,
the night was pleasant, don't get me wrong,
but what-if's are what darkness brings
as one inhales the crisp night.
There is still vision,
but only in skeleton,
the colors degenerate to hues
and the blacker range degenerates to dark.
And then I can see a light -
streetlamp -
underneath its unconditional stare
I can see color again.
