In Your Eyes
The world was dark; I thought the sun was dead.
All stars had dropped into the tossing sea.
The storm clouds pressed like mountains overhead,
And slate waves, crashing, almost buried me.
Just when I thought my boat would sink at last,
And I despaired of any help or aid,
I saw you through the tempest and wind’s blast,
And seeing you, forgot to be afraid.
You stilled the raging waters with a touch,
And roaring winds were quiet at your voice.
But ’twas your eyes that held me. In them such
A power was as made my heart rejoice.
But more than power, Lord, did there I see,
For in you eyes there was your love for me.
