That’s What Friends Do
dated: 1-23-05
5:10 pm

I can feel your shaking hand, slipping out of mine
Somehow it feels as though you’re running out of time
The sparkle of your blue-green eyes has somewhat disappeared
I think that you are trying to fight back salty tears
The stress you carry has just become too much for you to take
Your mind is constantly spinning thoughts and at night you lie awake
You’re thrown from your sheltered world, and can hardly get through the day
I don’t think you believe me when I say, “It will be okay”
The life you lead is blurred and lost
But I’ll do my best to get you out, no matter what the cost
Because that’s what friends do, that’s what friends are
A friend is here to listen and to mend your broken heart

Smile though it seems so hard, or it might just help to cry
Disappointment in yourself is heard in a broken sigh
The world behind your eyes has faded, it’s lost behind a mask
You don’t need to fly alone, if you need help just ask
I’ll do my best to pick you up, and keep you far from harm
So when I stay at your side, don’t look so alarmed
Because that’s what friends do, that’s what friends are
A friend keeps a place for you deep within their heart

Originally written and sort of inspired, sadly, by what a friend was going through. It turned out good though. I decided to wait to post it until now.
