"Why the Hell is it so hot out today?" he whined to himself. "I need something to take my mind off of this extreme heat.."
When his eyes fell upon a roach that was making its way out of his pants pocket from where it must have hidden while he slept last night in his appartment, a smirk broadened over his face. "I think I know just the thing."
Roughly ten minutes later..
Jai looked up from the bagging station and perched one hand upon his hip, raising the other to the back of his neck and blinking in mock surprise. "Uhhh. Damean?" Jai inquired, not letting a smirk sound through his voice that was pasted on his lips.
"Yeah, Jai?" Damean's voice rang back from up front where he was working the register. "I'm busy!"
Jai's eyes shifted to the side at the packaging section, then back to the front at the back of Damean's head. "Tell the boss to come back here for a minute!"
"Sure thing!"
A second later, Damean's voice echoed through the whole restaurant, and Jai twirled a finger in his ear to make sure that he hadn't gone deaf.
Upon entering the kitchen, Mr. Peeps stared in shock at the counter top where a pie was sitting, ready to be packaged. Upon it there were countless burned roaches.
"What is this pie doing covered in roaches?!" screamed Mr. Peeps once he'd slammed the kitchen door and windows shut so no one would hear him except Jai and himself.
A sheepish grin crossed Jai's face, now, as he shrugged his shoulders. "Lying there?" he said 'nervously' while suppressing a laugh; he was succeeding quite well despite the look that was currently plastered upon Mr. Peeps' face.
"Lying there?! We don't have a roach problem!"
No, but my appartment does because you won't give me a raise in my paycheck, you cheap prick. thought Jai.
Before either Jai or Mr. Peeps could get anything else out to each other about the situation at hand, the kitchen door burst open and Kyle stood in the doorway, grinning ear to ear at the two. "Hey guys!" he yelled.
Mr. Peeps turned to face the intruder, running to hide the pie from sight, as he yelled, "No customers are allowed in the kitchen!"
Kyle, however, had already spotted the pie, and a sly smile reached his lips. Slinking over to the counter and stopping in front of Mr. Peeps, Kyle pushed his weight up onto his toes, trying to look over his right shouler.
Mr. Peeps shifted to that side, and Kyle changed to look over his left instead.
"Come on, it isn't like you-" Shift, switch. "-have anything to-" Shift, switch. "-hide back here, now, is it?"
Finally, Kyle managed to catch Mr. Peeps off guard and the man stumbled sideways, leaving Kyle to carefully pick the roach-covered pie up and down it completely in one large bite.
"Great new addition to the menu, there, boss man!" he stated, tossing a $20 bill into the man's hands.
Mr. Peeps stood in shock at Kyle, then looked at the money in his hand.
Jai, meanwhile, was laughing aloud at his friend who had apparently forgotten what he had went there for in the first place and waltzed back out of the kitchen, closing the door behind him, content with his meal.
After a few moments of further shock, Mr. Peeps looked up at Jai, smiling. It was obvious something was in his head.
"Jai Lyres, do you think you can re-produce that thing that your freaky little friend just ate repeatedly or perhaps give the recipe for it to me?" asked Mr. Peeps, pocketing the money and throwing an arm over Jai's shoulders.
The teen shifted his eyes suspiciously to the side at his boss and nodded warily. "Why?" he inquired.
"Because if you can, young man, I can forsee a raise in the near future for you! I may have a genius on my hands!"
