The Lord of the Ring-tones
Chapter 3
A light in the darkness
Joe stood petrified with fear. He touched the trickle of blood that ran down his cheek.
“That creature could have ripped me in half! And it would have been easy enough since I just stood there like a deer in headlights.” Joe thought, “Why did it only scratch me when it could have bitten my head off in one clean chomp?”

Joe stared into the pitch-black abyss. Holding his breath.
A sudden wave of courage washed over him and Joe felt his muscles tighten.

It was so beautiful. One of Nature’s most perfect gifts. There was an angelic quality to it. This fox gave off some sense of… purity. Joe did not feel at all threatened by this creature.
“No way.” Joe said aloud, “This can’t be the creature that’s been attacking me. It just can’t be.”
He heard a sharp growl. Joe instantly knew that he was right. This was not the creature that had been attacking him.
The creature that was behind him however…
