Claimer: All the people and places in this story are mine!!
Chapter One: Hitori
Hitori waited patiently in the branches of a tall oak tree, where he could watch the people below him, but they could not see him. The people belonged to a caravan of Shiros, the people of the Light. He snorted to himself. “People of the Light my butt!” he whispered. There were a lot of women, children, and men in the small caravan.
He was only looking for one man though. His name was Dray, and he was the owner of a precious green stone Hitori wanted. At least, his tribe leader, Kurayami, wanted it. The boy in the tree could not make heads or tails why, but he was not there to ask questions.
Instead, he searched for the man with long, light blue hair, enjoying his first real mission. He grabbed onto a higher branch, looking down and searching the crowd with chocolate brown eyes. Long strands of silky black hair fell in his face. Ignoring them, he leaned out, stupidly revealing his face.
He could see many people, but none with blue hair. There was one little girl, though. She had little blonde pigtails and was staring up at him with big blue eyes. His eyes connected with hers and be panicked a little. Holding a slender, tan finger up to his mouth, he silently asked her to be quiet.
She smiled slightly and nodded her head. He gave a sigh of relief and smiled back. “Susie, dear, what are you staring at?” a plump woman asked the little girl curiously. “I’m lookin’ at da boy in da twee, momma,” she said simply.
Hitori grumbled to his self and thought, ‘Stupid little kids can not keep their mouths shut.’ The woman looked up angrily. “You, boy!” she yelled. He pointed to himself mockingly. “Yes you! Get down from there! Your mother is probably worried and you could break your neck if you fall,” she started ranting. Many people were looking his way too, trying to figure out what the woman was going on about.
He smirked and gracefully jumped down and landed near the woman and her daughter. She huffed angrily at this. He was almost the same height as her, a little taller. “Learn some manners, boy!” she shrieked and led her daughter away.
“What’s your name, young man?” a tall red-head asked him.
He studied the questioningly. “Who wants to know?” he said challengingly.
“Joshua Waters,” he replied, unfazed. “I’m second in command leading this caravan, and I don’t remember seeing you before.”
“That is not my fault,” he shot back.
“Are you planning on joining us?” he asked, seemingly not irritated.
Hitori thought for a moment. It would be easier to find Dray that way, but it would then take longer to get home. The caravan was heading away from his tribe, Oruk. ‘But if I leave, I will not be able to get the stone,’ he thought to himself. “I will be joining your caravan, for awhile anyway,” he stated.
“Very well,” Joshua said with a smile. He started walking away, but continued talking. Hitori followed, guessing that was what the man expected. “We’ll be stopping up ahead at a small stream shortly. Just for a quick rest and drink of water. We walk until sunset and set out again at sunrise. We’ll reach Piro by noon tomorrow.”
“Piro?” Hitori asked, surprised. The red-head nodded. “I have always wanted to visit Piro.” It was not a lie. Not many Kuros, his people, could venture into a Shiro city without being questioned. He did not think much about this though while he followed Joshua.
