BLOODY WATER

“Whoo,” said Jim, wiping sweat from his brow, “it’s

hot.”

His father looked at him and raised an eyebrow. “The

water fountain’s right over there, Whiner Boy. Go cool

off.”

Jim thought this was a good idea, so he set off for

the fountain. “Thanks, Dad!” He yelled over his

shoulder.

“Welcome, son!” His dad hollered back. But then, to

himself, he muttered, “My plan has been set in motion.

Let’s only hope the fountain is hungry....”

Back at the water fountain, Jim leaned in to take a

drink. “Ah,” He murmured as the cool water ran down

his throat, “Refreshing.”

Just then he felt a searing pain in his leg. “AHH!”

Jim staggered backwards, blood streaming from the open

wound on his calf. “What the hell?!”

He hobbled back to the fountain, which was spattered

in what appeared to be Jim’s blood. “How--” His

question was suddenly answered as the fountain opened

its giant mouth once again and took another big bite

out of Jim’s leg.

He was on the verge of yelling for his father when he

noticed that the man was just standing there, watching

calmly as his son was devoured. Jim quickly fell

unconsious from the excrutiating pain. The water

fountain slurped his remains messily, starved for

food.

Soon nothing was left. Jim’s father tromped over and

cracked a grin. “Thanks, man. Hey, maybe I’ll bring

Jessica over after soccer practice tomorrow.”

“That would be tasty,” the fountain replied. “Now

leave, before I feel the urge to chomp on your soft

flesh.”

Jim’s father backed slowly away. “Oh... right... see

you later....” He hurdled into the seat of his

convertible and sped away.

Seconds later, a little girl pranced over with her

mother and pressed the button. As the water started to

spew out, the girl jumped back in shock. “Mo- mommy,”

she stuttered, “The- the water’s red....”
