Lookit this, another chapter. Sorry, it's horrid. T.T I wrote it at like..1AM in the morning. I had coffee so I wasn't tired. Anyways, here's Chapter Three!
"Uhm....erh...well...I'm...." I started to mumble random words, trying to put some sort of recgonizable sentence together. Drew just continued to glare up at me, waiting impatiently for an answer. I shifted my eyes away, and glanced over to Alexandra's group of cronies. I cringed when the red-head winked at me, and quickly I let my eyes dark back to Drew's face.
"He's obviously a new student here whose lost!" exclaimed Alexandra, sidling up besides me and taking my arm. I almost hissed at the touch of her hands on my skin. Her eyes looked me up and down, I swear she was undressing me with those eyes. Fuck it all! I'm being violated by a pair of eyes.
"Here's a word of advice," purred the girl who was latched onto my arm, "Stay away from Drewsie there. She's a witch and so unpopular. Unlike me. If you're seen with me, it's Insta-Popularity, but if you hang around Drew, that's Insta-Social Flush."
Drew scoffed, and rolled her eyes. I glanced over at her, then back at Alexandra. Meekly, I yanked my arm from the pink prep Queen's grip and muttered, "Erh...I think I'd rather hang around Drew instead of you."
I saw Alexandra's eyes widen, and heard her cronies gasp. I almost laughed at their stupid reactions. But I heard the red-head inquire why I would rather hang out with Drew. Becoming silent for a moment, I looked over at Drew, who seemed curious to why I wanted to hang around her as well. Slowly, I said, letting my eyes drift back to Alexandra "Because, I'd rather not catch your stupidity."
Then, Alexandra made an outraged squeak, and slapped me across the face. I winced, and instantly my hand came up to press against the slapped cheek. Oh yeah, I was definitly solid, but was I alive was my question.
Vaguely, Alexandra shouted something along the lines of 'jerk' at me, and stormed off. Her cronies soon followed, a few dazed at how I had just treated their idol. Rolling my eyes, I glanced over at Drew, who looked slightly pleased.
"Nice one." I heard her murmur. Her eyes danced with amusement at how I handled the situation, but she was still very wary of me. She then became defensive again, and glared up at him, "Yet, you didn't answer my question."
"Oh..." I muttered, and looked down at the floor. Nervously, rocked back on my heels, debating how to answer Drew's question. She definitely wouldn't believe the truth. If I told her that, she'd think I was some sort of jerk trying to play a prank on her. Sighing, and shrugged, and looked at her again. "My name's Adrian Colet. Uhm...nice to meet you...Drew is it?"
The girl tilted her head to the side, and actually smiled weakly. "Yeah, I'm Drew Salience."
Well, now we were getting somewhere! I looked around nervously, seeing the halls were abandoned and empty. Letting my eyes drift back to Drew, I decided to make a suggestion, "Want to go to the arcade or get somethin' to eat?"
Drew blinked, and shook her head. Instantly, her small happiness vanished, and she stared back up at me. "No, I can't. I have work." She almost sounded disappointed, but I decided to shrug that off.
Looking her over, I closed my eyes and laughed a bit, "Well, then, I'll accompany you to your job." I was hesistant at saying this, and my voice was slightly softer than usual. But I opened my eyes to see her staring up at me. I shifted from foot to foot, a bit nervously. Man, I wish I was intangable again! At least then Iwas invisible, or I could just sink into the as I was about to turn away, rejectedly,I heard her voice.
"I guess that'd be alright...Adrian." I felt a pang of sadness for her, as she uncomfortably said my name. She didn't have any friends to talk to. And she hardly said anyone's first name, oddly enough. But, I covered up my sympathetic sorrow with a smile. Surprisingly, she looked away, and I thought I saw the smallest traces of redness in her cheeks.
"Well, let's get going then." I said, but stood still. Obviously, Drew just remembered she was about to throw her useless textbooks into her locker before Alexandra showed up. Quickly, she turned to her locker, slightly embarassed, and twirled in her combination. After chucking those books into her locker, she turned and started to walk off.
I followed her, of course. Not only was it of my own accord that I followed her though, I felt a tugging. So, obviously, I still had to follow this girl around regardless of my new form. But, it wasn't that big of a hassle. As Drew and I walked together, we spoke of different things. Conversation was neither mien or Drew's strongpoint however, and we miserably failed at any attempts at reviving a conversationg that fell silent.
So, for most of the trip to the mall, Drew and myself walked in silence. Yet, it wasn't that annoying silence that suffocated you with nervousness. It was that pleasant, companionable silence. A silence that said you were comfortable around the other person, whether there was sound or not.
It slightly dawned on me, just then, that Drew had marked me as her friend. I saw her glance up at me from the corner of my eye, and I smiled down at her warmly. She looked away, the red tinge adorning her cheeks again. Flattered by the blush, I smiled a bit more, but the smile slightly lost it's happiness when I realized another thing.
I was dead, she was alive. As soon as I made this girl happy, so happy she'd want to live, I'd just drift away. And Drew would live on, happy. She'd eventually forget about me....and that bothered me for reasons I didn't know.
