The Songbird Serenade

Starlings, cardinals, springtime robins

Blackbirds, bluebirds, wrens and martins

All songbirds across the land

Have come to the oak, to the garden of man

A rainbow trail of feathers parade

For the Songbird Serenade

First one bird voice, then two more

The Garden waits for what’s in store

Now three voices sing, then four, now five

Reminds us why it’s great to be alive

Ten voices , twenty, thirty forty now

Sing to the skies, their joy of the clouds

A symphony of mirth is made

From the Songbird Serenade

The gathered birds’ sonnet grows louder

Bringing fourth the dawning of hours

For the Garden to awake

Hedgehog, cat and Scottie awaken to the music they make

Owl returns to his dead tree

As Lord Squirrel sunbathes happily

For no sorrows can barricade

The dawn time’s Songbird Serenade

Songbirds’ voices now grow dimmer

As high above the sun does climb and simmer

The concert’s ending

But the music’s still sending

Hope for this brand new day

The Serenade’s done its task, not once gone astray

The symphony’s done

But don’t worry small one

If by chance you missed the song

They’ll sing again tomorrow morn to sing their joyful song

Rise with the sun with them and mayhap you’ll sing along

They’re there every morning, you’ll be glad you came

Bright and early for the Songbird Serenade
