Chapter One: Snow Realm

Adiel sat inside the carriage quietly. Emerald eyes were trained on the small, pale hands rested in his lap, the ends of his long brown hair covering them. He sighed softly. The man sitting next to him looked at him, concerned. “Prince, are you alright?” he asked quietly. He sighed when all he got out of the young elf was a small nod. “Cheer up, Highness, I’m sure Prince Helca is a nice man,” he said gently.

“That is not why I worry, Bear,” he said looking to the older elf, who was his personal guard. “I might never get to see the trees of our homeland again. I am going to the Snow Realm, Bear!” he said exasperated. “Do you know what is in the Snow Realm?”

“…Snow?” Bear said carefully, but with the hint of a smile. Adiel just glared. “Yes, snow. I may never see green grass again. Or flowers…or…or a lake that is not frozen!”

Bear sighed. “Highness-”

“Call me Adiel, Bear. You have known me my whole life,” he interrupted angrily.

“It is not proper,” he started but with the glare coming from the young prince he gave in. “Adiel, the Prince can not keep you from your homeland forever. I’m sure he will let you visit. And you know your brother will have something to say if you do not visit, anyway.” Bear grinned when the prince offered a small smile.

“Yes, I believe he would,” he said. He gave the other elf a small hug. “Thank you for making me feel better. I will still miss the warmth of our Wood though.”

“As will I,” the bigger elf said quietly. He smiled brightly at Adiel’s confused look. “What, Prince, did you think I would leave you to fend for yourself?”

“Yes, that is exactly what I thought,” he said angrily. “Why did you not tell me?” Bear shrugged. “I thought you knew,” he said simply. “You are a big meany!” the young elf said childishly and crossed his arms, looking the other way. “How very mature, my Prince,” he said with amusement. The brunette did not answer. “Come on, do not be angry. I really did think you knew.”

Adiel sighed and leaned against Bear and closed his eyes. “I forgive you, as long as you let me use you as a pillow.”

The older elf smiled and whispered, “Of course, Highness.”

Adiel woke up a few hours later. He opened his eyes to discover that he was lying on one of the seats covered in a heavy blanket. Yawning widely he sat up and found that he was alone. He shivered when the blanket fell off his shoulders. “So cold…” he whispered. The door to the carriage opened suddenly, letting in even more cold air.

Bear quickly closed the door and looked at the prince. “We will arrive at the castle shortly, you need to get ready.” The brunette nodded as he was handed a warm fur jacket and slipped it on. “I know it isn’t the best, but it is better than nothing.”

Adiel just nodded. “I know, hopefully the Prince will have something warmer waiting for me when we arrive. Can you help me brush my hair?” The bigger elf nodded and sat behind the prince and started to brush his long, brown hair. He continued brushing it gently for a while until it looked presentable. The prince sighed when the carriage stopped. “Are we there?” he asked quietly and looked at Bear. He nodded and gently pushed the small elf towards the door. They walked out into the freezing cold and Adiel gasped at what he saw.

So what do you think? Good? Bad? Should I continue?
