This is more like the usual things I write. Lith
'The song of the Shadow Riders'From beneath,
From below,
On the blooded plain
A single voice rises;
Morning,
Singing bittersweet words.
The song of the Shadow Riders.
I first heard those words
Sang upon a dusty track,
By my dearest friend
We walked then in happy times
And these words rang to a merry tune.
She said 'twas a heart-rending song,
Sung by solders in the aftermath.
And that it oft brought them to tears.'
'Why?' Said I
'They were remembering those
Whose voices were stilled'
Now I understand,
As I look down
I see the bodies,
Men and women
Young and old
Those who fought as enemies lie;
Equal and triumphant;
Side by side.
Death conquers all
But we will remember
Other voices have joined the one.
My own among them.
May you rest in peace,
My brothers and sisters.
The song of the Shadow Riders goes on,
The singers do not
How many times have we walked down this road?
How many times have we walked this path?
How many times have we walked this way?
And how many times will we walk it again?
How many times have we sat in the tavern?
How many times have we nursed a mug?
How many times have we laughed together?
And how many times will we do so again?
How many times have we fought together?
How many times have we stood side-by-side?
How many times have we talked to each other?
And how many times will we be together?
How many times must I walk it again?
How many times must I do so again?
How many must I be fight with out you?
And how many times must I be alone?
