FIVE BLADES OF GRASS LOOKING AT A MAN

I
Although our blades are blunt,
we pierce the battlefield
in time to catch the
fallen.

II

With ambitions of
our own we hinder
one man’s victory on
the golf course.

III

Wilting beneath the heat
of two lovers,
a shred of our boredom
pesters departure.

IV

Naturally,
we may grow.

Naturally,
man may cut us
down.

But when woman cuts down
man,

naturally,
we take advantage.

V
There are two suns,
though only one is real.
Is it the sun rising
in the East, shaking the
song out of trees?
Or the sun in the West, setting
ahead of its end?
