CENTERTAF

In Old Man’s Square
stands the centertaf,
ignored by heads fashionably bare
(softened by years absent of War),
yet makes a decent photograph
and a solemn metaphor.

Quand quelqu'un se dirige au ciel,
seulement un imbécile regarde le doigt!

argues the lonely angel,
but don’t mind her;
would rather gawk at the men
guarding the base, as they
once were.

1. Mispronunciation of ‘cenotaph’.

2. Nickname for the place where the war memorial in Keighley, West Yorkshire (England) is because a lot of old men sit on the surrounding benches.

3. “When someone points at the sky, only a fool looks at the finger” derived from Amelie.
