Grim Smile:
Prologue:
Summary: Shell’s not quite your average fourteen year old – she has a very sadistic job, but someone has to do it. She thinks it’s bad when someone decides to make her job harder, but that’s nothing when secrets unfold and the unthinkable happens…
A/N: I’m back! I’m writing lots of fanfiction at the moment over original fiction. It may take a while for this to be updated. This is a prologue, ie. very short. PLEASE review!
There’s a ripple of fear at every corner.
She was terrified – too terrified to even move. She was shaking as the man drew in on her. He was looking at her hungrily, but she didn’t notice. She was frozen in fear, staring at his hand. A knife was clasped in his grasp, and he was stroking the blade almost lovingly, in preparation for something that she would sooner not happen.
A small whimper escaped her throat, and she unconsciously drew back against the wall. The man – at least, she presumed it was a man, he was so heavily cloaked it was impossible for her to be sure – gave a sadistic smile. “My, my,” he chuckled. He brought the knife up so that it pointed at her heart, looking extremely amused at the look of panic that flashed across her face. “Relax, kid.”
She didn’t relax – how could she? She felt rather offended at the kid comment. She was twenty one, she had her own kid… She wasn’t a child.
He stroked her cheek and she tensed. Using strength she didn’t know she had, she kneed the man in the groin.
The man spun to the floor but was back up in an instant, almost as if he wasn’t new to pain. The amusement was still in his face, though not as much. He shoved her against the wall, and this time, the knife was pushed against her throat. “Try anything like that again,” the man said pleasantly, “and this might just slip. Understand?”
A noise came from her throat that he seemed to take as a ‘yes’. He chuckled. “Now, tell me,” he began. The woman’s mind was in overdrive. What did he want? Her money? Her jewellery? Here, she swallowed again as she thought of more and more absurd situations.
Before he could go on, she said, “Wait! If I tell you what you want, will you let me go?”
The man chuckled. “Yes.” He didn’t look at her. “What’s your name?”
She sighed in relief. That was all he wanted? Her name? She was more than happy to tell him. “Leanne Ellis.”
The man’s eyebrows rose in surprise that he quickly tried to hide. “Really?” He asked as she nodded. “Well,” continued the man, pushing the knife further towards her neck and making a small cut that made her cry out. He withdrew the knife and stared at the blood on the blade, then smiled sadistically at her. “Goodbye.”
Her eyes widened. “But, you said!” She protested feebly, terrified. The man smirked as he plunged the knife into her heart.
“I lied.” The last words the woman thought that she would ever hear.
Far away, a girl was sitting up with a very annoyed expression on her face. “Damn,” whispered the girl, as she crept toward her wardrobe and pulled out some black robes. “I hate my job.”
