This is what I remember…
This is what I remember of you
The sweet notes of a song unfinished
This is what I remember of you
The story we penned in our minds
You made me feel so beautiful
And you told me I was whole
You filled a secret emptiness
That had begun to eat me alive
When I saw you I saw an angel
Your voice would comfort me in the night
And when I sank toward the abyss
Your song would bring me to the light
You taught me so many brilliant things
Like what it is like to really love someone
And, though I don’t think you know it,
You showed me how it feels to be loved back
You were there for me when I needed you most
Holding my hand through the darkest times
You brushed away a million unshed tears
With the reassuring words you spoke
You stood beside me when I felt most alone
And you didn’t leave me to cry in the dust
If only you could be here with me now
Instead of somewhere in the far reaching mist
I can’t bear to watch you leave me now
Because you’re taking all I ever had
The only thing you have left behind
Is this empty, unclean shell of mine
These broken notes of a song unfinished
Are tearing my heart into shreds
The bittersweet memory of the story we started
Keeps piercing my tormented head
So, it is good that a memory is just a memory
A fleeting moment in someone’s life
A song that has once been beautifully sung
But will fade to an echo with time
