They Say What They Can't

--

pressed against sweat damp skin

lips move in words he can't hear

tongues tell him it's time for goodbye

gripping hands say it's forever

-

bloodshot eyes say don't leave me

unsteady footsteps say i can't

but trembling hands don't catch him

they can't say what they want

-

weak voices don't say i love you

falsely bright ones don't say me too

closing cell phones don't say i miss you

phones hung up can't agree

-

frozen hearts say where are you

breaking ones can't seem to find

weak minds can't admit true feelings

stubborn ones try and leave it behind

-

squinting eyes behind glasses don't see him

falling cigarettes mean that he can

uncertain words say do i know are you

misted eyes tell him perhaps

-

shaking heads say i don’t remember

bittersweet grins say i’m not surprised

shallow handshakes don’t mean forever

distant footsteps are a final goodbye

--

Note: This is actually based on a story idea I couldn't seem to write. I hope it doesn't completely confused anyone. Some might understand if I told them.
