The Lying Game

I dressed up bright today,

I even forced a smile;

trying to be happy,

if for just a little while.

- - -

But I feel as if you played along -

knowing it was an act.

You weren’t really laughing

and you didn’t smile back.

- - -

Everything was fake -

both you and I were feeling blue.

You smiled.

I smiled.

You laughed and I did too;

but deep down inside

we know that none of it was true.

- - -

We’re still going to continue,

happiness - it’s all pretend.

I’ll act as if I’m having fun

but I just wish this day would end.
