Chapter 1 – Entrance to a Free World
The mirror glittered and shimmered, disturbed by no one... untill now.
The guardian, a guy with huge white wings, looked lazily at the mirror. He wore a strange white outfit, also strange for an angel to wear. He wore a white shirt and robe over it, with no neck tie and some jeans with several holes on the knees, which seemed to be roughly ripped on purpose.
The guardian stared at his reflection, which looked back at him, wearing his serious expression. His reflection didn’t exactly look very happy to be there. He poked his leg in the mirror and it went in, shimmering delicately like a rippling puddle of water. The guardian pulled his leg back and the silvery liquid got pulled and shimmered back into the mirror. The guardian yawned and waited for his call.
The Ice Queen walked delicately through the path. She frosted the ground and put ice on any living creature ahead and back of her. They became like ice blocks the minute her cold stare approached them, giving them no warning. All who knew her swift venomous look ran from her path. But the Ice Queen didn’t have time to play. She had work to do. She had waited enough in this ridiculous world of elements already.
Slowly she could view the guardian through her cold-blooded eyes. She walked slowly, casually looking around. It was completely white with untouched snow.
The area was in the middle of Elemental worlds and Heaven and Hell itself. The place was filled with light, blessing the stranger with peace and light.
But the Ice Queen was a source of pure evil.
She glanced at the mirror and her eyes sparkled with greed and power.
“May I help you?” The guardian looked up suspiciously at the woman covered with her own creation of ice. A dark aura covered the woman and the Guardian Angel backed his legs away from her by instinct.
The Ice Queen looked at the guardian and sneered. Pathetic creature... she thought and was amused of what she was going to do next.
She blew an icy breath that would have killed a thousand cows into the guardian’s face. But this guardian, of course, was not a normal person. Nor was he a cow.
The Ice Queen’s ice breath crawled up to his face, like a snake about to devour its prey. The guardian, realizing that the woman before him was his enemy, got to his feet. He yelled an angry curse at the woman, who grinned evilly.
The guardian pried the icy breath and it shattered like a glass window, flying into every direction.
The guardian yelped as the shattered ice pieces scratched his uninjured delicate face. His once divine face was now covered with scars.
But the guardian didn’t care about any of that. At the last moment, a huge piece of shattered ice came hurling at his eyes. He spread his magnificent wings and shielded his eyes. The guardian winced as the huge piece of shattered ice struck his wing deeply. “Clever one, aren’t you, Nathaniel?”
The guardian looked up and froze, confused at what just happened. He had never met this woman before, and yet she knew his name as if she had known him for centuries.
“Well, now that you’re not distracted, I might as well finish you off-“
Before she could finish that sentence, she hurled a black speared ice at the guardian angel, who stared at her with confusion. At the last minute, the guardian angel realized that he was in danger and flew up into the sky, only to remember that his wing was injured, which meant, he couldn’t fly well.
The Ice Queen chuckled as the guardian angel yelped, falling as soon as he had tried to fly. The black ice spear dug deeply into the guy’s chest, who managed to stay upright, though he was on his knees. Light pulsed and began to fade quickly. The guardian pulled the spear painfully and threw it as far as possible.
Your angel’s stupidity reveals to me everything I know about you, my old friend... she thought to her friend, who hid behind Heaven. If only this person was actually with her to see this very moment.
The guardian, losing his advantage of flying away from the unknown woman, had no choice but to use elemental magic.
“Jahagistr!” he yelled. A burst of light erupted from both his hands. Cradling it carefully like a baby, he then threw it hard at the Ice Queen’s direction.
She dodged the light ball easily, as if she were playing a game. When the light ball flew past her, it froze into an ice ball, still glowing inside the layers of ice. With out a moment, it fell to the ground, shattering into yet another million pieces of ice. But it melted quickly and soon turned into light again.
“You can never hurt me! Your lord has made you into one piece of disposable rubbish!” the Ice Queen shouted and chuckled. Her cruelty made the guardian’s heart fill with anger.
“How dare you-!” the angel shouted, for the first time. The Ice Queen smiled viciously.
Before he could finish his sentence and attack with elemental magic at the woman, he realized his feet were frozen cold. He couldn’t move an inch. That meant he was trapped.
The Ice Queen laughed a nasty laugh that shivered the guardian’s body entirely. If it was a mere human; the person would have been dead from fear of the woman in front of them.
The Ice Queen smiled and with a swish of her fingertips, her ice elements obeyed.
The movements were too fast that even the guardian angel could not stop the ice elements from coming. “Hasamiyralshifakirtiasuwit.....”
Her spell continued to escape from her lips. The guardian was now hanging loosely like a doll. Chilling ice covered every corner of his feet. It slithered upwards, so when the Ice Queen was finished with her spell, the ice was already covering up until his neck. The Ice Queen smiled wickedly, proud of her fine work of trapping the wretched guardian.
“How do you feel, caught right in my net, Nathaniel? Hmm?”
The guardian only spat at the Ice Queen, which turned to ice before it even touched her clothes. The Ice Queen just stared at the angel for a moment with disgust written on her face.
Then she grinned and with one long finger, she lifted the guardian’s chin up roughly so the Ice Queen’s eyes met his.
The surging power of ice and the cold was now aimed directly into the guardian’s body. His face turned pale in an instant and he couldn’t pry his eyes off of the Ice Queen’s eyes, which seemed to glare at his eyes deeper and deeper.
The guardian wheezed as his heart thumped fast in his body. His whole body was going cold.
“Nathaniel...” The Ice Queen purred into the guardian’s face. The guardian didn’t think he could hold on any longer. He was going to die.
“Show me how this mirror works and your puppet shall live!”
The guardian shook his head, glaring at the Ice Queen with all his might.
“NATHANIEL... TELL ME OR YOUR GUARDIAN DIES!”
The guardian looked at the woman in front of him with hatred. Then his eyes seemed to go faint and his expression change. A deeper and more commanding voice shouted at the Ice Queen. “Ice Queen, let my angel go!”
The Ice Queen only cackled. “I thought you of all people will never come out of your hiding place! Now tell me how your mirror works and I shall let him go.”
“LET HIM GO, ICE QUEEN.”
“No! Not until I know how this mirror works!”
“Then you have a problem; I won’t help you no matter what happens!”
And with that the voice and the expression vanished from sight, leaving the Ice Queen to stare with anger and frustration at the angel dying before her.
“Now, little guardian, will you not tell me how this mirror works?”
“NEVER!”
The Ice Queen hissed at the guardian’s face with frustration and with a swift sharp movement, her long sharp fingernails sliced into the tender flesh of the angel.
The guardian breathed his last and collapsed onto the ground. The ice that surrounded him shattered before the body dropped.
There was no blood. It had already turned into ice.
The Ice Queen gave a little triumphant sound, though her frustrated mind made her impatient. She stepped onto the blood that had turned to ice. A cool wind blew into the Ice Queen’s face as she realized what she had missed something. She looked back quickly.
The guardian’s body disappeared, his wings turning into a thousand beautiful feathers. It floated upwards and slowly, while flying high up in the air, shaped itself into sentences where it floated and said, Mirror, Mirror... Your beauty shall not ruin all lives from your power...
The Ice Queen cursed as the mirror glittered red. The air grew busy.
She shrieked angrily and tried to grab the feathers, which floated even higher, away from the Ice Queen. Then it flew up into the air and disappeared.
”You Fool, Nathaniel!”
The Ice Queen looked murderously at the area where the guardian was and looked back at the mirror. Words came up and appeared onto the mirror. It seemed to want to talk to the Ice Queen. It was looking deadly. It wrote.
“If you would like to pass, you have to answer my question. Speak truthfully and you may pass. If not, you will perish in doing so...”
The Ice Queen looked intently at the mirror and waited.
“You decide to break me. You have one reason doing so. To not let any more intruders pass me. You are choosing a weapon to do that. For your powers will not break me. There are two mirrors on the ground. One is a shiny beauty with silver seams. The other is a rusty old mirror, tired and wasted. Which would you choose to break me with?” the mirror wrote on itself.
The Ice Queen thought about it and spoke, “The Shiny one.”
The mirror didn’t speak. Then it slowly rippled and made a dark way in. You chose what you thought and did not lie. You have been truthful with me. Evil, your path is, but I cannot say you are wrong. Enter... it spoke. The Ice Queen triumphed and went inside the mirror, laughing and cackling at how she had won. Or thought she had won.
