Fevered handreaches for fevered brow
to comfort and be comforted
To never have lived is against life's law
Yet this childs life hath soon depart

Mothers love; yet strong as steel
And long as the Fates string
Cannot stop what destiny will seal
And the sorrow it will bring

As the clocks time burrows on
And this infants life soon to end
Oh to lose a precious son
And the mother's heart will never mend

What to do in such misery
What is more cruel than destiny
