The Dilemmas of an Antisocial Writer
By Joyce Reid

I try to concentrate in class
But my mind now is like a glass
Deflecting the professor's tide
Of words so that my thoughts can hide.

I'm sorry I ignored you then.
What did you say? Please say again.
I really better try to stop
This constant chit-chat of my thoughts.

It's late and I should go to bed
But why, when spinning in my head
Are stories, poems, faces, names;
My mind is busy playing games.

It isn't that I try to be
A bit lost in stupidity
I just can't help it -- this is true;
I am a writer through and through.
