Disclaimer: This story is absolutely and totally mine. Please don’t use any of it, without my permission.

Author’s Note: Golden Lake University was founded and is owned by the same people as Silver Lake University, which features in my story called “Silver Lake University”. However, this story has nothing to do with that one. But do read that one anyhow and review, pretty please?

Chapter One – Introducing Campbell

The sound of the alarm clock startled him, and he flung his hand toward the evil contraption he hated so much. Though he was planning to turn the thing of and go back to sleep, he miscalculated and accidentally knocked it to the ground.

The alarm clock didn’t stop, and Campbell groaned before sitting up. He rubbed his eyes, then bend down to pick up the cursed alarm clock. It was 7 am. Why did he have to get up this early?

While he got up and grabbed his towel, he remembered he had an appointment with the guidance counselor. He groaned again before entering the shower, closing the door and taking off his clothes. “Why did I have to agree to go to that party?” He muttered the words, which were barely audible and intelligible even to him, before he entered the shower stall.

Campbell simply stood there for five minutes, letting the water wash over him. That was all he needed to wake up in the morning, a shower. After the five minutes, Campbell felt completely refreshed and ready for another day.

He quickly got dressed and stole a glance at himself in the mirror. His big, brown eyes were warm and alert, and didn’t give away the fact that he had had only three hours of sleep. Since his hair was a millimeter long he didn’t have to comb it, so he quickly left to be on time for his appointment.

Campbell Hart was a sophomore at the prestigious Golden Lake University, an institution famous for the quality of her education in virtually all forms of entertainment and sports.

Campbell hurried out of his dorm, which lay by the lake, towards the oldest building on campus. All the buildings were ‘old’ from the outside, but brandnew and technologically very advanced on the inside.

Two students he knew from last year waved at him, and Campbell waved back. He could clearly see the boys were drunk, and just returning to the Golden Lake Complex from the nearby city of Reuville.

Campbell sighed as he thought of Reuville, remembering the job he had had there last year. Quickly, he made a mental note to go to Reuville as soon as he was finished with the guidance counselor to see if the job was still available.

Campbell had starred in his school’s play two years ago, which had been visited by a teacher of GLU’s Drama-faculty. The woman had approached him to see if he had been interested in an acting carrier, and after a few days she had called him with the offer of a full scolarship. Campbell, who had always dreamed of acting and singing, had immediately accepted and that’s how he came to be at Golden Lake.

His freshman-year had gone by quickly, and it hadn’t been that hard. Campbell, ever the teacher’s pet, had chosen not one but three majors: Drama, Music and Dance. Since he was really good at all three, he had had a fairly easy first year compared to some of the other students.

He knocked on the guidance counselor’s office, already knowing what the conversation the man wanted to have with him was about. His brother, also an attendant at GLU, had already warned him.

He heard the GC tell him to come in, so he opened the door and went inside. “Mr. Williams?” The man behind the desk nodded, and motioned for Campbell to sit. “I’ve invited you here, Mr. Hart, because I wish to discuss your workload.”

Campbell cut right to the chase. “You want me to drop a major,” he said, and Mr. Williams nodded. “Last year was fairly easy, Mr. Hart, so last year you could get away with having three majors. This year is going to be a lot more difficult. You have studied your course schedule?”

Campbell nodded. “History of Cinema, History of Plays and Musicals, Literature. And those are just for Drama. The point is, Mr. Hart, that you have too many classes. I have spoken to your professors from last year, and they believe you have bitten of a bit more than you can chew.”

“Sir, with all do respect, but I think I really can manage…” Williams cut him off. “You can’t, Mr. Hart. Your professors and I have discussed it. Even if you manage to do all the work for all your classes, it will mean cutting back on practicing. And practice makes perfect. So we have come up with a compromise. We suggest you drop Dance, and focus on Drama and Music this year.”

Campbell shot up. “But sir…” Williams cut him off again. “Calm down, Mr. Hart! I haven’t finished yet. Music get’s fairly easy next year, and you won’t have any classes for Drama. This is the compromise: drop Dance now, and pick it up again next year.”

Campbell considered the offer, and realized that he had no choice. If he didn’t agree, they’d make him drop one major anyhow. Part of him was glad he got this chance, since he had been a little anxious about the huge amount of work he’d have to do this year.

“I’ll take the offer, Mr. Williams,” he said. Williams smiled at him while he wrote something down in Campbell’s file. “Call me Gerald, Mr. Hart. Now, I have another appointment in a few minutes. I’ll be seeing you next week in History of Music. Goodbye, Mr. Hart.”

Campbell got up and exited the office. Now that he had taken care of that, he had to take the bus to Reuville. He wondered if Joanna, the owner of thebar he had worked at last year, would rehire him.

He worked at Joanna’s bar as a waiter, and on Friday nights during happy hour he’d take the stage and sing some songs. He was even fairly popular among the citizens of Reuville and all the students who would go to Reuville to relax a bit.

Campbell sighed, remembering last year again. Last year had pretty interesting, but Campbell had no idea just how interesting his second year at Golden Lake would be.

Author’s Note: I haven’t forgotten about Silver Lake, so nobody should worry about that story. I’ll update SLU this week, but I just had to get this out of my system.
