The look on Ebony's face quickly changed from blind anger to shock and horrer at what she saw before her, her beloved Quirrian laying in a quivering mass upon the ancient tower floor, his body bruised and beaten almost to death. Ebony cast a quick glance around the room to make sure his captor was gone and then entered. The injured mage bent down to examine her lover's wounds and cursed in helplessness as she felt his body relax and his soul joyfully slip away from her. The tears of pain and sadness she withheld to save for another day, for she knew that now it was her task to carry out Quirrian's quest of returning the Key of the Morquirans to the Morquiran queen, Retranina the Red. She shivered slightly as she turned Quirrian's dead and cold body over. She searched his pockets and took everything she could salvage and stood. Drawing the glyphs in the air she recited a chant spell of departure and guidance of the soul that would lead his soul to the Gates. After she finished, she watched the body burst silently in to flames and disintigrate until only his ashes were left. These she collected and stored in his pouch. Later she would stand over the Shore of Death and lift them up and let the Wind gather them and take them to the place where the soul that once inhabited them would dwell for the rest of eternity. After she had left the room she stole away quickly to the treasury just down the hall and smiled as she saw that all of the guards that had once guarded it were strewn all about the floor, there eyes white and rolled back in their sockets as lifeless as the stone floor on which they lay now. The elemental she had summoned must have done it's job well. She approached the door and attempted to open it. As she had expected, before she had even touched the handle, an alarm suddenly went off and she felt more then saw a large creature appear in front of her. It's huge but elegant body gave it away to be an Impregaria Demon although it's features were somewhat warped. The demon looked stunned and tired for it had been asleep for quite some time in it's realm of fire. Ebony took advantage of it's sluggishness by conjoring up a large ball of water and threw it so that it hit the dumbstruck Impregaria Demon smack in the eye and while it fretted, she flew past it and in to the treasury that contained all that she and Quirrian had worked and died for.

Ebony shook her head as if trying to clear it of the memories of the past week that had haunted her since her return to the castle of her queen. The Key of the Morquirans that Ebony had successfully managed to rescue from the powerful grasp of their enemies now lay around Queen Retranina the Red's neck on a silver chain. For once, Ebony was thankful for the long, thick mass of strait black hair that obscured her face from all the people around her's vision, for a long clear stream of tears had started to trickle down her pale, thin cheeks. She picked up her goblet of Stronhtarn Berry Wine and took a large swig in an attempt to drown her sorrow and pain. Needless to say, it did not work. She set down her glass and politely excused herself from the table with a slight dab on what looked like her mouth but was instead the rest of her tearstreaked face.

Once away from the never-ending chatter of the dining hall, Ebony once again let the tears spill endlessly down her face. The quiet solitude of her room was only broken by the soft purr of the palace cat, Nahima who had managed to slink in to her room before she closed the door. As she stripped down and put on her nightgown she was relieved to feel the soft silk on her body instead of the corse velvet and heavy jewelry of her evening gown. She was surprised to notice that as she was dressing, her fatigue had all but vanished. Ebony smirked and went over to retrieve a book from her shelf. As she picked up one to look it over a sheet of paper fell out of it. She reached down and picked it up. It was covered in the dust from the books but the paper whiteness gave away the fact that it was really quite recently written. Slowly she opened it and gasped to find that it was Quirrian's handwriting. The very night itself seemed to hold it's breath as she read being careful to catch every word, every detail of the briefly scribbled note.

My Beloved Ebony,

If you are reading this note then, as I'm sure you know, I am dead, or you found this before I planned but I think it must be the first. I have hidden this note away so that if I do not return then you shall know how much I care. It seems that I have excepted this quest so that I may be a rich man, or so that I may increse my reputation, but in truth, I have made the decision to go for no other purpose but so that you would be proud and so that I could live my life with you and raise a child in happieness and comfort. My love and my life I have laid on the line for thee and for the possible future child you may bear, but alase I am dead and you are feeling lost and betrayed, but never fear, for my love for you will last forever, through death and beyond. If you would I wish that you would not worry or throw away your life for my sake and through grief, but that you will live on and live a long life so that you may make me proud. I will leave you these two madalions so that you may carry my essence with you for always so that it may protect you from any harm. Live with love and remember what I have written here in this note and when your life is over, I shall be waiting at the edge of death itself for you to return to me and so that we may remain together for eternity.

Your Love,

Quirrian Rumantio Lamaisiliandrin III

The sobbs that racked her body afterward kept on for a good hour or two until she heard a quiet knock on her chamber door. Ebony quickly wiped her face and straighted her gown before opening the door. She looked out into the hall to encounter none other then the queen's own son Larian. He looked down at her from great crystal eyes that seemed to see right through her facade to the sadness behind. He asked politly if he would be aloud to come in and she reluctantly agreed. He swept past her into her room and sat down in the chair by the fire. He masked his emotions well. His face despite the handsomness that surrounded it, now reminded her strongly on a very flat, grey wall. He spoke after only a few moments of silence. "Mistress Ebony, on behalf of my mother the Queen Retranina the Red, I am here to offer you a proposition. The Queen has asked me to inquire as to whether or not you would be inclined to take up the now...er...vacent position of the Head Mage of the Kingdom of Morquiria." He sat bended over his hands with his beautiful golden hair obscuring her view of his face. She was shocked. The very idea of someone such as herself being offered a job of the highest position by the QUEEN HERSELF well, the odds were astronomical! She stuttered a little but managed to get out a barely comprehensible yes. The prince then lifted his head and smiled. He smiled one of those smiles that could melt you down. Ebony felt a familiar heat down in her crotch, a feeling that she hadnt had since Quirrian had left on his mission for the queen. At the thought of it, tears once again started to spill uncontrolably down her cheeks. Larian's face quickly changed from one of relief to one of concern. He walked over to Ebony and aquarkdly placed his arms around her in an uncomfortable kind of embrace. The feeling of her heat even through his clothes was enough to make him blush. He was then quickly ashamed to think of her this way, after all, she had just lost her lover, her lifemate, her friend, and here he was, trying to take advantage of her only weeks after Quirrian's departure from this world. Just then Ebony stopped crying and looked up into Lirian's eyes. He looked down into those deep purple orbs, sparkling from the tears she had just cried, and he could no longer help himself. He pulled her into a tighter embrace and kissed her gently on her supple mouth. Their tongues faught a war-like dance. Ebony moaned a little into Lirian's mouth and pushed away a little. She faught to untie Lirian's trousers and finally managed to get the tie undone and pull them down. Meanwhile Lirian gently removed Ebony's nightgown with only a few cool motions. He then slipped his hands up and onto her incredible breasts. He moved his thumbs around Ebony's nipples in a rather circular motion. Ebony moaned silently into his mouth again as he started to move against her slowly, and then faster, and faster. Lirian then picked her up and set her down on her bed. He was almost on top of her when she pulled to the side and rolled so that she was on top. She arched her back as she kissed him, deeply, her tongue playing tricks that made him gasp. He then pulled her down and they both fell into each other. Her into him, and him, into her. He rolled her over and moved back and forth in her, slowly, gently at first, and faster and harder. Ebony gasped and cried out at some of the things he did to her. His mouth on her breasts, the moving of him inside her. The faster and harder he went, the more she pulled him down. And then, all the barriers they had both spent weeks, months, years creating, fell down with them. They lay there inside each other. Ebony, after only a few minutes realized just how tired she was and in a few minutes, she fell into a deep, dreamless sleep. Lirian just lay there inside her, watching her sleep. He smiled. Her scent filled his nostrils, her heat, her warmth, her comfort all around him. He only vaugly realized that he was drifting off to sleep too...but he didnt care. For once in his life, he was truely, and completely, Happy.
