My Loss

What have I lost?

That’s a question

You really need to think about

Take a walk back into the past

Give your life another hard look

You’ll probably find it

Maybe even buried under mountains

Of new memories you have obtained

Looking back on this

I realized that I

Never had a father figure

Losing my father didn’t seem

Like much of a loss

Im glad he’s gone

But I miss the feeling of

Having a father

I guess you could say

Dwelling on loss

Gets you no where though

He was never there for me

A thorn I never had

But the rose is still beautiful

Regardless of its missing thorn

I guess he didn’t think

Before he betrayed my mom

And beat me

Last time I saw him

There were dancing white stallions

Doing mirror images of each other

Leaping in the air

Playing history before our eyes

Beautiful pure ivory

Regal and famous

In the dirt dressage ring

Where they showed off

And people paid money

Just to see them dance

I didn’t pay money to see him

But I did

My loss

Is not terrible

But its not wonderful

Its just there

And it makes me whole

Gives me a story to talk about

Even if I’m talking to the wind

Or maybe

One of those white stallions

That parade all around the world
