Mortal Beloved
For Nuala McCarthy

(Golden memories…)

The wind whispers in silent vespers
Through the leaves and trailing branches
Of the willow.
Silent echoes permeate the vacant rooms,
Loneliness descends-
Slowly

(…gilded with love…)

Raindrops fall from languorously cascading limbs,
But the cold, concrete surface they overhang
Remains unnourished. Barren

(…for you…)

Save for those strangled roots,
Buried deep beneath the cracked cement and
Yearning for the fertile soil that lies nearby
In carefully tended gardens

(…my love…)

Of dreams, jealously guarded memories,
Alive, the fruits of labour
Never fail.

(…remember me…)
