End of All Hope
I do not own the song ‘End of All Hope’. It was created by and owned by Nightwish.(a very awesome band…you should check them out if you’ve never heard of them)
It wasn’t fair. He was moving from everything he knew. The lush green rolling hills that he had come to know like the back of his own hands. The beautiful, delicate flowers that he would caress everyday. The wide-open sky that he could stare into whenever he needed silence. The serene peace that would always over come him whenever he felt drossy. He was moving to the accursed metal city. The city where nothing was ever silent. Ever. He stood from the emerald grass he had been sitting on and stiffly walked back to the small house where he lived. The white of the house contrasted with the green and blue of the sky. He walked up the steps and turned the brass door handle, opened the door and stepped inside. He knew exactly what he could to make it so he would never have to leave the beautiful hills.
He was alone in the house. His mother was at work as was his father. He was always alone. Except for pat. pat was always there. No matter where he went. He loved pat and the support they had given to him. He had once told his parents about pat. He had hoped that his parents would accept pat as their own but all they did was smile and his mother told his father, “Isn’t it cute when they get imaginary friends?”
This had enraged him. He took pat and locked himself in his room for three days. He was proud with his reaction for when he came out, his mother apologized for her comment. pat was also pleased with her apologizing.
He didn’t really know what pat was. All he could see of pat was a dark blur that was always near him. When he would go to school and tell his friends of pat they would smile and then turn to one another and say he was insane.
Maybe he was insane. His mother and father had sent him to a psychiatrist before and he was evaluated. He was never told the answer but he did receive medication after the trip. Whenever he took it; pat would disappear for a few hours. pat always told him that the medication was evil and he needed to stop taking it. Or he would make pat disappear forever.
For the last few days he hadn’t been taking his medication because of them moving. The medication had ‘accidently’ been packed away and they didn’t know what box it was in. So pat gave him idea how to stay in this house forever.
His dark blue eyes scanned around his messy, box-stacked room. He spotted a box in the far corner and swiftly went to it. The blue cover read ‘KEEP OUT! THIS IS pat’S!!!’. His mother and father never questioned it. When he opened pat’s box he found many dangerous looking things. A pizza cutter blade lay rusted and deteriorated at the bottom of it. A pink shaving razor sat dully on top of it. There was an old book of matches with only one match left and a pin needle cushion. There was also a small bit of lamp oil in a container.
pat whispered in his ear, “Take out the razor, the match, and the oil…you will not need anything else…” he did so, “Now, throw the oil around the room.”
The young man opened the container and threw the oil everywhere and not a thing wasn’t touched with oil. He smiled with his proud work and then looked back to pat. pat nodded in agreement and then told him, “Now take the razor and draw it across your wrist.”
The young man blinked in confusion, “Why should I do that pat?”
“Because I said so…”
“But wouldn’t it hurt?”
“Yes, but do you want to stay in the house?”
“No, not if it means I have to commit suicide!”
“I did it so I could stay here so you must do the same!”
“No!! Where’s my medicine…? Maybe the doctor was right! Maybe you’re the bad guy!”
“Why are you now listening to him!!?? You know he just doesn’t want you to see me!”
“Maybe it’s a good thing…” he rummaged through a box and found the medicine, “Good bye pat.”
“You little bastard…” The black shadow launched it self at the boy. The boy screamed in pain and dropped the medicine…and then he dropped the ground. A white entity and a black entity rose from his body.
“No…” the white shadow whispered and disappeared into nothing while the black shadow floated contently above the dead boys body.
