A Winter’s Night (Speak-Remain-Disappear)
The sun reflects the water,
And brightens on my eyes.
It’s dying right of blindness,
- Speaks -
As it streaks rays across the sky.
A thorn catches on a memory,
But moves on to other days.
The leaves adorn the lifeless earth,
Telling of life’s hidden ways.
The cool air stagnates into night,
And freezes all beneath.
As the final lances of the light,
Withdraw into God’s sheath.
A winter night becomes us,
Like a vow that’s never spoken.
The intricate balance of its being,
- Remain -
For neither have been broken.
An owl hoots his waking call,
As silent ghosts arise in tune.
They tell of times no longer real,
As bells strike upon the darkened noon.
As the paling moonlight floats through the trees,
The wind rustles limbs and leaves awry.
The air gives way to a sullen breeze,
As the dreary hours drift idly by.
Then in a flash, the night is broken.
Its shattered pieces fall to the ground.
The ghoulish fiends of the night,
- Disappear -
But leave their presence all around.
I wait for the warming glow of my existence,
To be reinforced by the coming day.
I reflect on my spoken promises.
Now they seem so far away.
A winter day becomes me,
As a thorn sticks in my mind.
The sun fills the world with glee,
As I disappear with my new kind.
