you never know how small you are
until someone else says the words
you and I, both in body and soul
we’re minor things to occur

my name is safe in your mouth
words sacred under and above
the blanket of trees and carpet of moss
it all echoes with silent love

a chord played in the right light
brings back that shifting night
we revolved around each other
I hid under the covers
afraid if I didn’t fight myself
you’d find out I love you more.

the motions you made
when you thought I couldn’t see
those are the things I’ll remember
absorbed and buried deep

so many ever changing colors
surged forward in momentum
but were dimmed in comparison
to every look your eyes gave me since then

a chord played in the right light
brings back that shifting night
we revolved around each other
I hid under the covers
afraid if I didn’t fight myself
you’d find out I love you more.
