Dare

It's quiet in the absence,

Of my omnipresent friend,

Nothing seems to change,

No beginnings and no end.

In fact, listen closely.

Maybe you can find

The last vestiges of her presence,

Drifting through my mind.

Shining eyes a-sparkling,

The glint of evil lingering there.

Holding her silent challenge,

She offers me a dare.

She will leave, but only if

Her special shadow land,

Is slashed across my wrist,

With this knife within my hand,

She's suffocating now,

I can't bear to have her there,

So with steely determination,

I accept my dare.
