Once, there was an online multiplayer RPG entitled “Calamity.” This RPG revolved around the players doing their best to get more powerful so they could get more quests to accomplish, and subsequently defeat the evil Calamitous Union, which was trying to destroy capitalism... er, monarchy, because it was communist. Nobody playing thought the CU to be a serious threat. Then, when the creators of “Calamity” were sued by angry communists and soon forced into bankruptcy, they instituted a final quest in the game, called... Endgame. In Endgame, the player would journey into CU’s capitol, kill the dictator, and would be praised as the chosen one for all eternity. However, because of their bankruptcy, the makers of “Calamity” were forced to destroy their online RPG forever, because they couldn’t afford to keep the domain name.

But our story hasn’t even begun yet. In a rather improbable twist of fate, when an old woman turned on her washing machine, she unintentionally provoked quantum mechanics to randomly make another universe, randomly model it after “Calamity”, and randomly covered up the subsequent scientific debate using the excuse “Oh, just another part of quantum mechanics we haven’t discovered yet.”

Now, the new universe was drastically different from our own. The majority of it was a giant spherical landmass that somehow provided Earth-like gravity, with oceans here and there. Above it was the edge of the universe, which, to this universe’s inhabitants, looked like the sky at night.

The inhabitants of this universe were drastically different from our own (Assuming all “intelligent” life is human-like in our universe.). Each was modeled after a character in “Calamity.” Now, in “Calamity”, one chose a theme for their character, which determined how they looked, what they could or couldn’t do, or if they would get into arguments with other players for “taking their idea.”

Through sheer matter of coincidence or cosmic conspiracy, the inhabitants of this universe (I’ve GOT to think of a name for them) spoke English, for sake of a plot device. Unlike us, however, they were all a rather violent lot, constantly fighting each other. Due to this, a race of beings known as proctors was created. The proctors created a test to organize the other inhabitants into classes. In order of lowest to highest:

F
D
C
B
A
S

The test tested fighting ability/endurance, charisma, knowledge, selflessness, and wisdom. If one got a certain score, they got a certain class, and thus, bragging rights. Those of the S class were the rulers of everyone. The test took place when all of the S class was wiped out.

And so, thousands of years passed in this new universe, all oblivious to our own universe. However, the Calamitous Union grew in power over the millennia...
