Winged Soldier

By Amanda Jovine

You’ve called my name many a time before

Walked me through your path

I’ve seen you’re eyes falter

I’ve watched your world spin away

I brought you from what you damned into

I kept you alive

Call me your winged soldier

I’ve never failed you

Never let me forget who I am

Winged to carry you

From your valleys to your peaks

Never let me forget who you are

I carry a sword, blade of steel

It cuts through your barricades

I’ve never failed you I can’t

I’m your winged soldier

Lay all your problems on me

I hold the world

I can take your problems

Winged am I

You cannot hide what is obvious

Pain and fear trace you

I’ve risked my life for yours

Yet never asked for the return

Forever hold me tight

That is all I need

To be yours

To be the one to save you

Nightmares rape me

Send me senseless

But I’m your winged soldier

Don’t need to be fixed

Fear not for me

The world is on my shoulders

But it is light

Bare not your burdens alone

I’m free of my own problems

They mean nothing

Feel neither guilt nor sorrow for me

I’ll be okay without help

The world rests easy

Sleep well dear one

I’m your winged soldier

Here to save you.
