In reading Othello i was drawn to the line "i am not what i am", Iago
(1.1.67). Iago is not what he appears to be, and niether am i, nor is
anyone i have ever met truly what they appear to be. I find that
facinating and it inspired me. I wrote this little bit of nothing on
a bus after reading Othello. Please review.

I am not what I am

All is not as it appears to be

This face of foolish fancy

Is that alone, a face

A painted mask of revelry

Red lips, rouged cheeks

A smile for all

And reality for none

This vision, the one seen

The light, the sequin, the glitter being

A grand and false design

Hear me now, hear what I say

All before you is an act

A circus of color, a dazzling sight

Come too close and beware

For then you’ll see

Cracks in the paint that covers me

A charade that hides all-

Curtains over my life

This show would close and reveal,

The reality

If the world were ready for the true me
