The Real Meaning

A life once hated,
A girl once forgotten,
Was rescued by a prince.
This prince...
Was no typical prince.

When her eyes met his,
She knew there was something much deeper.
Unable to speak,
She wept tears of happiness,
Knowing she was the most fortunate in all the land.

However...
The prince was unable to stay.
His life in danger,
He fled from her...
...But not without making a promise to return.

And when he did,
That girl, that princess,
Welcome him with open arms.
"I will always be here," she spoke.
"I will always be waiting for you."

Gentle words the prince spoke,
Thanking her from the bottom of his heart.
She was modest, so quiet,
"Please don't thank me."
And the prince wondered whatever she could've meant.

And as the time passed,
She'd always remained by his side.
She'd always caught him when he fell.
To her,
He was all she ever had.

Everything seemed perfect to the prince,
But the princess was desperately sad within.
Unable to confront her feelings,
She hid them away,
And wore a masque.

And then a day came,
In which the prince was forced to leave again.
"Will you come back...?"
The solemn girl asked.
A knowing grin was her answer.

The days were cruel,
As were the years.
She tore herself up everyday,
Wishing that she had confided in him more.
She was a princess no longer.

As she wandered through her darkness,
She'd heard her prince's name.
"He's dead. Dead, long and gone."
She wept in pain,
Her heart broken into a million shards.

However,
That was not the entire truth.
The prince was alive and well,
But drowning in himself,
Drowning in his Hell.

When the girl came to realize this,
She knew what she was to do.
For his life,
For his love,
She followed the same path he'd taken.

"I'll find you, I'll find you."
She stumbled into the depths of his mind.
And indeed, he had died inside.
No longer was he the one with the warm smile.
No longer was he the one with the soft kisses.

She dropped to her knees,
Taking him into her arms,
Her tears spilling over her cheeks.
"I need you, my prince..."
"I can't live without you..."

The thought of knowing he was needed,
The awakening that the one closest to him,
Was the one who loved him most of all.
His smile turned kind,
Thankful for her concern.

And when he did,
That girl, that princess,
Welcome him with open arms.
"I will always be here," she spoke.
"I will always be by your side."

Gentle words the prince spoke,
Thanking her from the bottom of his heart.
She was modest, so quiet,
"Please don't thank me."
And he finally realized what she meant.

"I love you."

- This poem is dedicated to my very best friend, Motoki. May he too, one day realize that I love him more than anything in the world. -
