Chapter 8
Abbey was walking happily to school when someone grabbed hold of her from behind. “Shit,” she muttered under her breath.
“Happy to see me, Abbey?” a voice sneered in her ear. Her eyes widened and she looked back, seeing a manic grin on Bryan’s face.

“Leia, Evan, have you guys seen Abbey?” Alex asked once he approached the two by their lockers. Leia’s brows knit in confusion.
“No, I haven’t seen her at all since yesterday,” she said as Evan wrapped his arms around her waist. “Have you seen her, Evan?”
“No, actually, I haven’t.” Evan sighed. “Where do you think she is?”
“I don’t know,” Alex admitted. He slung his backpack over his shoulder. “Look, I might be late for class again, which is a really bad thing, so I gotta go. When you see Abbey, tell me, okay?”
“Yeah, see ya, Alex,” Evan said. With that, they parted ways.

“So, Ms. Brooks, how does it feel to be here in the apartment?” Bryan asked, grinning like a madman. Abbey gulped as she felt her wrists get tied together with rough rope.
“What do you bloody want, Bryan?” she spat.
“Why, my revenge, of course. Took me days to actually make a plan that can get Alex here.” Bryan rolled his eyes and finished tying her wrists together behind her back.
“Revenge for what?! Cheating on me?!” Abbey yelled. “Isn’t it supposed to be me getting the revenge?”
“Ahh, no, you just stole my best friend who is just like me. He can be cheating on you with anyone else.” Bryan circled around her like a vulture. “But oh gee, you love him too much to care.”
“He wouldn’t cheat on me like you, Bryan.” Abbey glowered at him. “He’s way better than you.”
“Hold your tongue!” Bryan snapped. “I can kill you just like that, I’m not afraid to.”
He snapped his fingers. Abbey shut up and stared down at the floor, trying not to be afraid. “God, Alex, you can come get me now,” she muttered under her breath.

Alex walked through classes, worry etched on his face. He asked countless people if they’ve seen Abbey at all. “Maybe she’s at Bryan’s apartment, I haven’t seen him either,” Andrea had said.
“She can’t be at Bryan’s… I’ll check it out anyway.” Alex ran down to the parking lot and grabbed his keys. He rushed to Bryan’s apartment, desperate to find Abbey.
Alex raced up the stairs and slammed his body against the door. “Bryan! Is Abbey there?!”
Bryan opened the door, a possessed grin on his handsome face. He opened the door wider and Alex saw Abbey tied to a chair, her eyes saying nothing. She looked up and saw Alex. “Alex!” she yelled happily. She glared at Bryan.
“What the hell did you do to her?!” Alex threatened, rushing to Abbey’s side. Abbey kept silent. “Abbey, are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” she replied.
“Now I got you two right where I want you. I can kill you right now, you know,” Bryan said, laughing evilly.
“Uh, whatever,” Abbey grumbled. Bryan quickly hit the back of her head with a pan, making her go unconscious.
“Don’t do that, bastard!” Alex stood up quickly and gave Bryan a black eye. They continued fighting: uppercuts, left and right punches and even a few kicks were made. Alex made a run for the phone and dialed 911. “Police, we have a situation here. A high school kid kidnapped my girlfriend and physically abused her…. 16 Lincoln Avenue, Apartment 13B. Come quickly.”
Before Alex knew it, he was punched in the head, making him lose all consciousness.

“Alex!” Leia rushed over to Alex’s hospital bed. His eyes were closed and trails of blood came from his forehead. “Evan, I think I’m going to faint.”
“Relax, babe, just don’t look at the blood,” Evan said, hugging her. “Um, he’ll be up soon after he’s bandaged. Abbey’s in for worse though. That pan hit her really hard.”
“D’you think Bryan’s going to jail?” Leia asked, meeting Evan’s eyes. He shrugged and kissed the top of her forehead gently.
“Don’t think about him. For now, we’re stuck with two of our friends that might have head problems.” He smiled at the giggling Leia. “Come on, I’ll buy us some coffee for the wait.”
They walked hand-in-hand to the vending machine.

Alex woke up with a major migraine. “Ugh,” he groaned, clutching his head. Evan approached the bed. “Dude, what happened?”
“The police found ya in Bryan’s apartment, bleeding in the head. You were unconscious. Bryan was about to kill ya before sexually abusing poor Abbey—”
“Where is that bastard?! He’s not abusing—”
“He won’t be, dude, relax! Abbey’s in another room, her head was bleeding from the pan and there are possible traces of new amnesia.”
“I have to go to her!”
“Okay, Alex, you gotta rest! Come on, you just beat up some maniac being put into an asylum. Rest first.”
“But I wanna see her…”
Evan threw his hands up in the air in exasperation. “Alright, alright. I’ll get ya a wheelchair.”

Alex carefully approached Abbey’s bed, taking her hand in his. Her eyes fluttered closed, her lashes contrasting her pale skin. Blood trickled down her forehead and her hair was all mussed up. “My poor Abbey,” he murmured slightly, pressing his lips towards her palm.
“D’you think she’ll wake up soon?” Leia asked, tucking strands of her hair behind her ear. “After all, she got hit by a pan.”
“Maybe… All we have to do is wait.”
