I watched as the car sped away and sighed. Then I pulled the headphones from around my neck and placed them on my ears. The voice of David Bowie blared on in a strange beat.

I turned around and started walking up to the large brick building in front of me. Since I could feel the stares being thrown my way, I kept my gaze on my Converses, which were now dirty from the dust kicked up from my feet. My fingers started tapping against my leg to the beat of the music. Then, my shoes hit a stair.

I looked up at the building. JEFFERSON MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL was what the sign above the large doors read. I had gone to this hell hole since sixth grade. But now it was my last year here- senior year. Yes!

I walked up the stairs, ignoring the glares that were burning holes into my neck. I walked into the familiar hallway and wandered aimlessly for a minute or two, before I realized that I only had a several minutes until homeroom started.

As I reached into my pocket, my hand knocked against my CD player, causing it to skip and me to frown disapprovingly. After making sure I wasn’t going to hit my CD player again, I grabbed a folded piece of paper and pulled it out. I unfolded it and scanned the sheet until I saw what classroom I was in. 117. Glancing up at the doors I saw, homeroom was only a few doors away. I walked up to room and stared at the door.

Was this year going to be hell? Or was this year going to be fun? I sighed. Then I shoved my hand into the pocket with my CD player (frowning as it skipped again) and let my fingers dance across the cool surface of the CD player, before finding and pressing the OFF button. The music that had been playing stopped abruptly.

I pushed the headphones down and let them slide against the back of my neck. Sighing, I walked into the room, hoping for the best...and seeing the worst.

Every where I looked I saw a prep or jock. I could actually feel the amount of stupidity in the room. These people were my sworn enemy. I wouldn’t be able to survive a year in here alone. I felt the urge to scream. Well...I did until I saw my friends at the back of the room, waving wildly at me.

A sigh of relief left me. Thank you Lord! I slowly walked over to them and plopped down into a desk. I opened my mouth, ready to greet all of them, when the door slammed shut. Everybody quieted and looked towards the door. An old lady stood there. A scowl was on her lips and she was glaring angrily at everybody.

She continued to glare at everyone as she walked to the desk that was in the front of the room. Some people started whispering quietly as she sat down. “Stay quiet so I can take roll!” she shrieked. The people that had been talking quickly shut up.

Maybe she was crazy. I pondered the possibility of a psycho teacher. As long as she didn’t attempt to kill anybody, it was okay with me.

Psycho teacher started taking roll. She called the names of my friends, my enemies. Then she called my name, “Faye Truckle!”

I raised my hand in the air and muttered, “Here.” She gave me an all out death glare. It looked like she wanted me dead...or maybe she just hated all kids. I rolled my eyes. Her gaze lingered on me for a second or two more before she started calling more names.

I still couldn’t decide whether the year would be good or not. On one hand I would constantly be surrounded be preps and jocks and have a crazy teacher that hates kids. On the other hand I had my friends and a whole year for pranks. Hmmmm...tough decision.

Meh. That sucked...
