you were always that angular
clean-lined man
a thin boned face and long
jangling limbs
drawn in straight lines that swung
acute and obtuse from
the geometer's hand, yours
too large for your wrists
dextrous and strong, rough with
carpenter's callouses

you never sat down but rather
fell in a loose jumble of arms, legs
the graceless elegance of
your elbow on my sofa and
knees forced under my table
goliath hands cupping the curves
of my grandmother's china

we said we'd be together
forever like infinity
encompassing all points and every second
but two planes extending in all directions
can only intersect but once.
