I have never been in love.

Why then, the dreams of a handsome stranger?

Why then, the hopes of elusive joy?

Why then, the burning ache in my soul?

You are young yet, my child.

Do not hurry away your innocence.

The world has many bitter flavours,

Which you have yet to taste.

I have never been truly alone.

Why then, this gripping fear?

Why then, this clutching at straws?

Why then, this weakness of heart?

You are young yet, my child.

Do not fear the future,

For it will come,

It always comes.

I have never lost a loved one.

Why then, this empathy?

Why then, this outpouring over a stranger?

Why then, these tears?

You are young yet, my child.

Your time will come,

And it will be hard, yes,

But you are strong enough.

I have never seen your face.

Why then, do I feel as if I know you?

Why then, do you speak to my heart?

Why then, this familiarity?

You are young yet, my child.

Do not fear the unknown.

But know this,

I am here.
