Broken
By Rachel Dawne Winslow

The world looks kind of tilted
From my point of view,
An obscenely twisted angle,
A peculiar shade of blue.

Fake a smile for a while,
Count the grains in every mile.

Life was never perfect,
But consequence rings true.
No need to play the innocent
Just to humor you.

Every time you make me cry,
Each and every time I die.
And yet I still deny-
I lie.

Throw me down again;
I am nothing but a breath.
Shut me up in silence,
For it will be my death.

My eyes will hold this fire,
The rage that you inspire.

The small peace that I have found
Has left me broken on the ground,
To discard and reject
Or treasure and accept.

And I would never let you see me cry,
And I will never let you watch me die.
And soon I will no longer be
The way that you remember me.

Left outside a door that is closing,
Lost in a world that means nothing.
I was searching for something real;
Let myself be hurt
So I remembered how to feel.

Hollow and static,
Work your empty magic.
Jaded and forgotten,
Treat me as rotten.

When the sun melts itself
In a puddle of green,
My dreams adopt
A hellish scene.
